Small-scale systems installed across Australia

This map shows the total number of small-scale renewable energy systems installed under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme in each state and territory, and the total kilowatt rated output for February 2017 and the national cumulative totals since 2001.

*Given the 12-month period for creating small-scale technology certificates, the number of certificates for monthly installations will continue to rise. The data which informs this month’s update is accurate as at 1 March 2017. For up to date figures, please refer to the postcode data for small-scale installations.

National trends and analysis

  • There were 6316 small-scale systems installed nationally in February, with a total generation capacity of 29 928.
  • Installation rates for February are currently tracking higher than January, with 6316 installed compared to 4623 last month
  • Queensland continues to have the highest level of small-scale installations across Australia with 1994 systems installed so far in February
  • Queensland had the highest number of commercial sized solar PV systems (10-100kW) installed in February, with 72 systems installed
  • There were 248 commercial sized solar PV systems (10 – 100kW) installed Australia-wide in February
  • Victoria had the largest small-scale PV system installed so far in February at 50.320kW
  • There were 49 PV systems that had a concurrent battery storage installation in February, bringing the total to 2771

  • The Australian Capital Territory installed 37 small-scale systems in February, which is an increase from January’s installation figures
  • Fyshwick (postcode area 2609) is the top performing suburb in the Australian Capital Territory in February with three new installations
  • Solar water heaters represent 27 per cent of the small-scale installations in the Australian Capital Territory in February.

  • New South Wales had the third highest level of small-scale installations across Australia in February, representing 20 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide this month
  • New South Wales had 70 commercial sized solar PV systems (10 – 100kW) installed in February.
  • Banora Point (postcode area 2486) is the top performing suburb in the New South Wales in February with 22 new installations
  • There were 24 PV systems that had a concurrent battery storage installation in New South Wales in February

  • The Northern Territory has installed 37 small-scale systems in February which is higher than last month, and represents 1 per cent of installs Australia-wide
  • Zuccoli (postcode area 0832) is the top performing postcode in the Northern Territory in February with seven new installations

  • There were 1994 small-scale installations in Queensland in February, which is higher than last month, representing 32 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide
  • Buderim (postcode area 4556) is the top performing suburb in Queensland in February with 18 new installations
  • Queensland had 72 commercial sized solar PV systems (10 – 100kW) installed in February.
  • There were seven PV systems that had a concurrent battery storage installation in Queensland in February

  • South Australia has installed 438 small-scale systems in February which is an increase from last month, representing 7 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide
  • Murray Bridge (postcode area 5253) was the top performing suburb in South Australia in February with seven new installations
  • South Australia had 22 commercial sized solar PV systems (10-100kW) installed in February

  • Tasmania has installed 116 small-scale systems in February which is an increase from last month, representing 2 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide
  • Solar water heaters represent 8 per cent of the small-scale installations in Tasmania in February


  • Victoria has installed 827 small-scale systems in February which is an increase from last month, representing 13 per cent of the total installed capacity Australia-wide
  • Eildon (postcode area 3713) is the top performing suburb in Victoria in February with 44 new installations
  • Victoria had 38 commercial sized solar PV systems installed in February
  • Solar water heaters represent 28 per cent of the small-scale installations in Victoria in February

  • Western Australia has installed 1610 small-scale systems in February which is higher than last month, and represents 25 per cent of installs Australia-wide
  • Kingsley (postcode area 6026) is the top performing suburb in Western Australia in February with 36 new installations
  • Western Australia had 36 commercial sized solar PV system installed in February
  • Solar water heaters represent 12 per cent of the small-scale installations in Western Australia in February
